Lifescan have produced a great range of Blood Glucose Meters to suit all types of uses and users. From the easy to use "OneTouch SureStep", right up to one of the most advanced meters on the market today - The "OneTouch Ultra Smart".

Each product has pluses and minuses, which we reveal below!

The OneTouch SureStep

The entry level meter in the OneTouch range.

Single button operation Large display, easy to read 150 reading memory Automatically gives 14 and 30 day reading averages. Comes with a carry case Takes 2 AAA batteries (included) Can be connected to a PC to download readings.

Our Verdict

Great for people who are unsure about testing, slightly frail or not comfortable with technology. It still has some great features for the advanced like the ability to connect to a PC. A good starter meter.

The OneTouch Basic

More fully featured than the SureStep.

Very Easy to Use Large display, easy to read, very good for the elderly etc.. When switched on, it displays the previous test result for 45 seconds. A great quick reminder feature. Accurate. Warnings on the display "DANGER CALL DR" if readings are too low or too high. Takes 2 AAA batteries (included) Memory button allows you to view stored readings Can be connected to a PC to download readings.

Our Verdict

As with the SureStep, a good starter meter. The Basic allows you to review previous readings on the meter, which is useful for those without easy access to a PC.

The OneTouch Ultra

Compact design.

Automatic switch on when a test strip is inserted Large display, easy to read 150 reading memory can be reviewed using the M and C keys 14 and 30 day reading averages are available Comes with a zip up carry case to take all the necessary items Can be connected to a PC to download readings. Takes a 3v Lithium battery (like a watch batery), capable of over 1000 tests.

Our Verdict

Great little meter, very popular, test strips are widely available. Small and lightweight due to tiny battery. Easy to lose in a handbag if it is not in its case!

The OneTouch Ultra Smart

A Blood Glucose Meter and digital logbook all in one

Not just a blood glucose meter Large display, very detailed information and warning messages Food, health or exercise information can be logged as well as medication. Logbook review function allows easy assessment of previous readings Comes with a zip up carry case to take all the necessary items, see image. Can be connected to a PC to download readings. 4 SmartKeys allow fast access to input Food, Health, Exercise and Medication information One Smartkey gives instant access to log information High and Low glucose warning messages.

Our Verdict

Superb product, perfect for those wanting to really improve their control and trying to find out why their glucose varies the way it does. Good for use during pregnancy or starting out on an insulin pump, or other occasions where logging information is important.

Not for the technology faint-hearted, but if you can work a cellphone, you should be ok! If you like this product - also consider the Accu-Chek Complete.
